Monasteries of the Heart

Night

Mantra
One more day to serve.
One more hour to love.
One more minute to praise.
For this day I am grateful.
If I awaken to the morning sun,
I am grateful.

Antiphon
My soul is longing for your peace, O God.

Psalm 4
When I call, answer me, O God of Justice.
In the past you relieved me from anguish;
now have mercy and hear me!

O people, how long will your hearts be closed,
will you love what is futile
and seek what is false?
It is God who grants favors
and hears me whenever I call.

Stand in awe;/do not sin.
Be still;/reflect in the night
Make justice your sacrifice and trust in God.

Many say, “What can bring us happiness?”
Show me the light of your face, O God.
The joy that you give me
is much greater than the happiness
of those who have an abundant harvest.

I will lie down in peace
and sleep comes at once,
for in you alone I rest secure.

Reading
Come to me, all you who labor and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon your shoulders and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble of heart. Here you will find rest for your souls, for my yoke is easy and my burden is light. (Matthew 11:28-30)

Reflection
As God’s word unfolds, it gives peace.
